Have you ever seen a first-time mother getting prepared for her child’s first birthday? If you have, you know that their excitement level is off the charts. Brian Parker was equally as giddy as he prepared for the first birthday of one of his babies, the RECON G6 Challenge. The announcement was made two months prior at the LOST G6, but I’m sure the planning for this event started many days before.

Participants started to arrive early on Saturday morning, but not as early as the RECON crew. The RECON crew all arrived before the sun came up to give G6ers a party to remember. First thing arrivals noticed was that this was a chilly Northern Nevada December day. Highs were expected to only reach to 38*F and the low that morning was close to 20*. If you didn’t dress properly, it was a cold day. The RECON scoring crew used a propane heater. It sorta kept them warm.

Around 9 a.m., drivers started to register, line up, and anxiously await the driver’s meeting. Look at that line of cars. Almost 60 drivers showed up to party.

That is when most spotted this HUGE cake, 18”x44”. This cake looked and smelled delicious, but only their rigs got to taste it as it became an obstacle on the Erzberg stage. Special thanks to RECON’s Rose Parker for baking 11 cakes and Big Willie for his decorating skills of said 11 cakes using 11 tubs of frosting.

Parker was not the only one in the birthday spirit.

The trucks were also ready to party.

In the spirit of the G6 birthday, Fvvr’s daughter got a surprise celebration of her 16th birthday. Insert your own clever comment about the matching colors.

Driver’s hoped to be taking one of these sweet finishing trophies by Zonkerd Designs.

Yes, that is a Planking Parker!

This is not a pile of trash. This is a collection of canned food and NIB toys. Donations were given to local food pantry and Toys For Tots charities.

On course repairs are part of the challenge.

Stage 2 featured a lot of upward terrain:

And downward terrain.

That Rodney guy was hiding all over the place, setting up for his next sniper shot of a RECON G6′er in action.

Follow the leader. Father leads daughter. Her first time driving a G6 was a success. She finished both courses. Her dad did not.

The huge cake was only a small part of the Erzberg-inspired stage.

Parker also included some of his favorites; Playa Mud Pit, Slippery Slidey Sidehill, Cables/Rebar of Carnage, and the Shaving Cream Pit.
That’s not cement. It’s the playa mud.

New features in the Erzberg Stage included the Leaf Submarine Drag Strip and Blind-Folded Buddy sections.

Here everyone is looking for a Honcho somewhere under all the leaves. Look closely and yoy may see the trail of dust it left.

Two stage buddies tackle the blindfold challenge. It’s kinda like pin the tail on the donkey for G6ers. The trick was to drive though the pipe with your stage buddy as your eyes.

This bomb crater gave this Jeep a workout. Soft, silty, it would just seem to suck everyone backwards if you didn’t have 650HP!

An unexpected pleasure was seeing all the Parker girls in attendance. Here Rose and Rosa team up on Stage 2.

The new Axial EXO made an appearance and many drooled over it.

While on course drivers were encouraged to find the aliens.

Heather found the green one and was rewarded with a custom built Honcho by Mr. Bender.

Sam was nice enough to reward his search buddy with the alien and a new RC Rock Armor bumper and fairlead. I think she was more excited about the alien than the bumpers, but I’ll make sure the bumpers get some good use. She named the alien G6, get it?

After a year in the making, the RECON G6 Challenge is still going strong. I can’t wait to see what it has in store for me in 2012. Make sure you break out your SCX10 or Wraith and get to a RECON G6 Challenge or the AXIALFEST 2012!

Under the trail guidance of Brian Parker, Axial’s very own team driver and tour guide director of the Recon Crawlers, Parker and crew unleashed a trail-system for the evenings event that everyone was looking forward. The first stage of the event would take drivers on an adventure, while starting at dusk, this would be the first taste of driving into the NIGHT! Lights all a glow, this was only preparation for Saturday nights Stage 2 as it was to be experienced entirely under the stars of night!
